
Cathy Jean and the Roommates
Cathy Jean Ruiz - Lead Vocalist. On May 03, 1960, at the young age of fourteen, Cathy Jean recorded the ballad "Please Love Me Forever" on the Valmor record label in New York City. After Cathy Jean left the studio, the record company executives arranged for a local group called The Roommates to record the background vocal tracks. Although they hadn't even met, Cathy
Jean & The Roommates were well on their way to a million-seller recording. After finally joining forces shortly thereafter, the group toured and enjoyed the fruits of their labors. "Please Love Me Forever" won Murray the K's Boss Record of the Week on WINS Radio in New York City in late 1960. The record entered the Billboard Hot 100 and soon reached number two in New
York. The Roommates also enjoyed success with their recordings of "Glory of Love" and "Band of Gold", which remain great crowd pleasers to this day.
Jerry Pilgrim - First Tenor/Lead. Jerry is a twenty-year member of the group and one of the most talented singers in the oldies field today. Jerry earned his musical reputation as a member of The Excellents and accapella sensations, BQE. Jerry's lead voice carries on the spirit of vocal excellence heard on the original recordings of The Roommates.
Shelly Wengrovsky - Second Tenor. Shelly joined the group in the 1990's and has made many nightclub, theater, television and radio appearances as a member of The Del-Vikings, The South 9th Street Band and a number of premiere accapella groups in New York City. Shelly is a talented and seasoned entertainer who truly enjoys his work.
Carlos Rampolla - Bass/Baritone. Carlos is the newest member of the group, having joined in 2006. Carlos is a fine vocalist and well-respected member of the New York oldies community. His association with The Teenchords and a number of superb accapella groups has made his face a familiar one to doo-wop fans everywhere.
