The
Marcels
The
Original Marcels combined their singing abilities in the late
fifties and in the area of Rock n' Roll, went on to unleash "DOO-WOP"
like never before. The originator and founder of The Marcels was
Frederick "Mr. Bassman" Johnson. Fred sported a "Marcel"
French-finger wave hairdo and the group adopted this unique hairstyle
as its name "The Marcels". The Marcels submitted a demo
tape to Stu Phillips at Colpix Records and in just two takes,
"Blue Moon" was recorded. The song hit the charts as
#1 for 14 consecutive weeks in the United States and also in many
other countries across the entire world. What followed will remain
in the hearts of oldie fans forever - hits like "My Melancholy
Baby", "Summertime", "Heartaches" and
"Goodbye to Love." The Marcels vocal talent and energy
opened the door to numerous opportunities through the years on
radio, stage and film, both in the U.S. and abroad. Today, The
Marcels are currently performing worldwide. Original Blue Moon
Bassman Fred Johnson still tours The Marcels, and of course, is
still the trademark sound of the group.
