Jimmy
Beaumont & The Skyliners
Since 1959,
over forty years of traveling all over America and other countries,
singing great songs, giving great performances and making thousands
of friends. It is no wonder that Jimmy Beaumont and THE SKYLINERS
are still making music that makes music history.
The classic standard, "SINCE I DON'T HAVE YOU". was
not only the debut record of THE SKYLINERS, but also , the first
in a string of hit songs from the pens of Jimmy Beaumont and the
groups first and only manager, Joe Rock. In fact, the artist/management
relationship between Beaumont / SKYLINERS / Rock is the second
longest such relationship in the entertainment industry. These
40 plus years in which so many "firsts" and "exclusives"
became part of the story and history of one of the greatest lead
singers and most admired and accomplished vocal groups in pop
music, prompted music and entertainment writer Joseph Sasfy of
the Washington Post to call them, "possibly the greatest
tight vocal harmony group of all time".
Although their
very first recording became a multi-million selling smash that
has since been recorded by more than a hundred other artists to
date, The SKYLINERS were not an overnight success story.
They struggled
for two years before even getting an opportunity to step into
a recording studio. They played wherever they could get an audience...from
out-of-the-way beer taverns, to downtown record hops, usually
for little or no pay. The experience paid off. "SINCE I DON'T
HAVE YOU" became an international hit when they stepped on
stage at the New York Paramount. They had as much polish and poise
as the rest of the cast, which was made up of long-established
veteran entertainers. It was this kind of incredible stage presence
in a group so young that inspired record producer Phil Spector
(who produced Ike & Tina Turner, The Beatles, and the Righteous
Brothers,) to say: "THE SKYLINERS" brought class to
rock and roll and Jimmy Beaumont is one of the greatest lead singers
in group history". Gene Goodman, brother of big band legend
Benny Goodman, stated: "Rock and Roll would be fine if it
all sounded like THE SKYLINERS. They are the Modernaires of today."
Even today, the fabulous Manhattan Transfer performs SKYLINER
material. Tim Hauser of "Transfer" states, "THE
SKYLINERS are our favorite group of all time."
With an honor
roll of hits that includes not only "SINCE I DON'T HAVE YOU",
"WHEN I FALL IN LOVE", "PENNIES FROM HEAVEN",
"WHERE HAVE THEY GONE", "COMES LOVE", and
many others, it is no wonder that The SKYLINERS have been on the
national hit charts for four decades, and are one of only seven
acts in recording history to ever accomplish that feat.
